Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Research propagation requirements for a permaculture system
  • Assess propagation needs according to permaculture system design
  • Determine source and availability of propagation material
  • Determine numbers of new plants to be produced for the needs of the system and/or for swapping, selling or community needs

Element: Develop a propagation plan for permaculture system
  • Determine methods of propagation for each species
  • Identify hazards, assess risks and specify controls for selected propagation methods according to workplace health and safety procedures
  • Prepare a propagation plan according to researched outcomes
  • Prepare seasonal schedule of propagation activity
  • Maintain propagation plan records

Element: Implement propagation plan for permaculture system
  • Schedule propagation activity according to propagation plan and workplace safety procedures
  • Ensure availability of space in propagating area for propagation activity
  • Prepare materials and equipment for propagation work
  • Organise propagules and apply pre-treatments according to propagation plan
  • Transfer successfully propagated plants into subsequent growing conditions according to propagation and growing plan
  • Grow propagated plants according to propagation plan and cultural requirements

Element: Maintain propagated plants to end use
  • Maintain optimal growing and cultural conditions for new plants
  • Monitor and treat pest or disease according to permaculture practice
  • Remove defective plants according to biosecurity and permaculture procedures
  • Apply treatments to new plants according to organic and permaculture procedures
  • Ensure plants are pre-conditioned ready for planting/distribution

Element: Maintain a healthy and orderly propagation area
  • Maintain hygiene practices in propagation facilities according to workplace hygiene and biosecurity procedures
  • Store surplus propagation resources and materials according to workplace procedures
  • Maintain records and update propagation plan according to workplace procedures

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
